Beginner Yoga

The Beginner class is a class that is open to those who are newer to yoga, or those that want to keep their practice simple. This class introduces foundational yoga asanas (postures), explores the use of various modifications and props. You will learn proper yogic breath, and how to combine that breath with your movement. This class will overall help you to become more comfortable with the practice of yoga. While this is a beginner class, be prepared to be mildly challenged both physically and mentally. But trust us, we’re there to guide you the whole way.

    I understand the business is called Fatgirl Yoga. Is there a class called Fatoldguy Yoga? Can I show up in sweat pants and Tshirt and not get thrown out?

      Hi Jon,

      While there isn’t a class called Fatoldguy Yoga, if you’d like to attend one of our coed classes, they’re held every Saturday morning at 10:15am. You can wear sweats and a t-shirt and not worry about being thrown out 🙂

    I feel silly asking but I gotta – I’m near 400lbs but would really like to try some yoga – are there really any BIG BIG girls that go or will I still feel like an outsider like in most workout settings? I don’t even know if I could physically do it but I’d like to try.

      Hey Angie – I’d love for you to try it. Trust me, your question isn’t silly. We do have a mixture of women in our classes – some bigger, some smaller. I’ve taught to women at 400 lbs, and I’ve taught to women at 120 lbs. We try everything in our power so you don’t feel like an outsider. That’s what we’re all about. Mostly, we want to teach you how great yoga is for your body, no matter what your size. We’ll start you out with small stretches, and slowly, as your body adapts, we can insert more moves. Come give us a try!
